10th Septemeber

In lesson we were told to take 5 medium-close up of somone who was over 16 and 5 images to do with school. we did thi sbecause we made a magazine front cover in class and a contents page. I had to decide a title and think of a few cover lines to go on the magazine front cover, on being the main coverline, by doing this the skills it gave me was figuring out where to put the covelines, what fonts to have them in and what to actually write. I also did a contents pages which helped me figure out what was included in a contents page and what i needed to put in there.

25th September

In the lesson we researched a number of content pages that were different and from different magazines. I made a table to write in how many images on their, how many columns, how many male and females and the colour scheme that was used. This was done in order to help me with the next part which was to compare the different qualities that each magazine content page had. This helped me see what the regular idea behind a contents page was and how in a way there were no limits. After I did this I wrote about how my research has helped me. The search helped me because from that I had an idea of how I wanted to structure my magazine and the amount of photos and colour scheme I would have.

14th September

In lesson we were given a task to analyse the front cover of a music magazine front cover. I has to research the front cover that we wanted to analyse. I chose to do one where Florence was the cover of ‘Q’ magazine, i chose to do this because, although i dont listen to her alot i really like her music and admire her.  I analysed different areas of the magazine which include the masthead, the costume, nvc, and lighting, cover lines etc... This helped me look in depth and focus clearly on the magazine in order  to see what the magazine included and think about how they were put  there delibratley, which made me think about what i will need to include in the magazine front coverin order to make it effective.

7th October

In class we researched examples of content pages from google. i chose 4 content pages as this gave me a range of different styles that could potentially influence me and I was able to see how each magazine conducted their contents pages. I compared them all together to see what was typical of a content page and what weren’t. This helped me a lot, especially when it comes to how to lay out my contents page

23rd September

I took the pictures that were set for homework which were the five medium close up shots and 5 pictures related to school and I uploaded that onto my school magazine front cover and contents page. After doing this I uploaded my front cover and contents page next to each other on my website in my preliminary task.

13th October

Our task was to conduct audience research. I did this by using two types of social media: iMessage and Whatsapp as it was easy to make a group chat on there. My audience were my friends and I had 9 people answer my questions. I came up with 6 questions to ask them in order to give me the right information that I required. Doing this was very helpful as I was able to see what other people would expect in a magazine.

I compared two double page spreads from my genre of music. I chose to do Tine Tempah and The Swedish House Mafia. Both the double page spreads were different and had different aspects of him. One was interview based and the other factual based. By doing this task it helped me see how I wanted to set out my double page spread and what is expected to be in a double page spread. It also helped me see what types of images I could add as my main photo.

In class on Photoshop I started to design my double page spread.  I went on dafont.com to choose different fonts for my numbers that would go at the bottle of my double page spread. I also figured out what font I wanted to use for my masthead. I rearranged the masthead, numbers and date at the bottom untill i was happy with them

Wwe were set a task to complete our Double Page Spread. I took my pgotos for my DPS and selected a few that I liked and asked a few people which one would look better. I chose my image. I also came up with a question and asnwer style of article. By using publisher I organiased the layout and from there it was easy to transfer it onto my page to make it all fit in well.

The task set was to come up with artist/band names and magazine name and to find out what fonts that I wanted to use for the masthead.  I went on dafont.com to help me with this. I chose various serif and seins-serif fonts and picked out my top 5 favourites. When deciding my artists name and my magazine name, I tried to keep it to the electro/dance theme.

In the lesson I designed a draft copy of what I would like my contents page to look like, I used Photoshop for this. I had to take into consideration how many images I wanted and how many columns. I made two examples of it and asked people which one they prefered. Also I tried to make it relevant to what people said in my research.

From looking at other music magazines contents pages I was able to see what things  they include e.g. all magazines had regulars and features. From this I then started to plan the content that would go into and started to plan what to write underneath them. I laid them out to how I wanted and added the page numbers next to them.

Our task was to take photos for our contents page. I decided to do a few photo shoots and take a couple of photos as I wanted 4 or 5 pictures onto it. I only took 2 photos to make it simple.

By going on dafont.com I was able to choose the font that I wanted for my contents page title. I looked at other magazines like Q and I liked the simplicity of the font that they used. Although it was simple it was effective so I tried to replicate that in my own way.

I decided to add more photos to my contents page as it didnt look very good with just 2. I added 5 photos to it and made sure they were the right size an layed them out well. I also decided my colour scheme and added colour to the text to make my final product.

I played around with the colour scheme that I wanted for my contents page as it didn’t seem to look right. I tried to figure out what colours should be for what part of the text. After this everything became simpler. I was able to add more structure to it and make it neat and more presentable. After sorting all this I was then able to sort out the positioning of the pictures and add the title to it.

As part of homework the task was to plan a draft of what we wanted out front cover to look like. After looking into magazines like Q magazine I was able to understand some of the things that would be included onto a front page. I came up with 6 cover lines to add to it.

As part of homework I went away to take photos for my front cover. I re-took these photos 3 times as the first time the quality of the photo did not look right. The second time the image was great, however I wanted to add more makeup to it. The 3rd time I was happy with it.

I chose the picture I wanted and added this onto my Photoshop page. From that I placed in all my sub-headlines to it and organised them until I was happy with the way that they looked.

I decided to cut out 3 of the sub-headlines because otherwise it would have been over crowded, especially with all that colour. I also tried to make it different to other magazines by adding a handwriting type of text to it. I positioned the text where I wanted it in order for it to look neat. I also came up with the main headline and the name of my artist. Also I chose thee barcode and price and positioned them where I wanted.
